Chuckles and Whispers

My "Pieceful Nights" wallhanging is off to a great start!  Today I was having the best time chuckling about about how rusty I have become in the basic's of piecing.  I used to be so quick at the math for all these shortcuts, but today I had to re-learn.  The designer assumes I have good Geometry skills and I can easily figure out all the shortcuts to precision piecing.  Little does she know about my high school Geometry class.  I barely passed.  But I love Math and spent years tutoring Algebra - gotta love those quadratic equations!!

Today, I could almost hear God's little whispers of encouragement as I fervently tried to calculate quilter's math. When I finally figured out the similar size flying geese and the fabric sizes to cut, I knew He was beaming with great pride; especially when my points and seams lined up perfectly.

This block is ready to be pieced together, but it has been an eventful day with my family and I am quite tired tonight.  Hopefully it will become a unified block tomorrow.  I love the colors and the fabric's in this wall hanging.  They are all rich earthy colors - my favorite colors of fall.

I'll keep you posted on my progress :)

New Beginnings

Hi Friends,
The brown Farmer's Daughter quilt on the left was my first quilt that started my quilting romance.  The Rail Fence quilt on the right was my daugther's first pre-school quilt.  My first wall hanging was challenging because it had so many set in pieces with bias edges.  It has proudly hung in our living room of every home for the past 28 years.  It has faded slightly, but the memories are rich.  My daughter was the only pre-schooler with a quilt for Quiet Time.  She carried it under her arm every week for four years.  She still lays it on her bed at home during the winter months.  It has been part of the layers of love for 19 years.

Right now, I'm starting "Pieceful Nights" by Lori Smith.  What a beautiful pattern!!  I'm loving the process.  I have all the border strips cut and I'm piecing the center star.  I'll let you know my progress next time.
I love new beginnings!

Inspired by Others

My daughter says I need to jump in and join this huge family; so here I am putting my fingertips on the selvedges of this vast cyber-quilt world.  I've been a Quilter since 1987 when I took my first class at a Local Quilt Shop.  I was the one who always raised my hand and asked all the questions.  My teacher was the "Queen of Patience" and never rolled her eyes as she gave another perspective to what she was explaining.  A year later, she asked me to explain how to make the  Double Wedding Ring quilt that I brought in for show and tell.  At the end of our session she asked if I would teach the class and I replied only if she promised to be there.

My two daughters have grown up sleeping under quilts and having a few special dresses made by Mom.  They are both artistic in their own way.  I look forward to sharing quilts from the past, projects for the present and dreams for the future.  Thanks for reading and I am eager to meet many new Quilting Friends.

Blessings to you,
Elaine
